First list of Ingredients:
- 1 Tablespoon Butter
- 1/4 Cup Minced Onion
- 2 Cloves Minced Garlic
- 1-1/2 Teaspoons Salt
- 1-1/2 Teaspoons Black Pepper
- 2 lbs Ground Beef
- 3 Slices of Bread, Toasted and Crumbled – or – Bread crumbs
- 1 Egg, Beaten
- 1-1/2 Tablespoons Worcestershire Sauce
- 15 Ounces Tomato Sauce, separated equally
- 1/4 Cup Milk
- 3 Tablespoons Ketchup
Directions
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Melt 1 Tablespoon of Butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add 1/4 Cup of Onion and the 2 Cloves of Minced Garlic and cook until Onions are transparent, about 5 minutes. Remove from heat and add 1-1/2 Teaspoons of Salt and 1-1/2 Teaspoons of Black Pepper.
In a large bowl mix together the Onion and Garlic mixture with 2 lbs of Ground Beef, 3 Slices of Crumbled Bread, 1 beaten Egg, 1-1/2 Tablespoons of Worcestershire Sauce, and the first half of the 15 Ounces of Tomato Sauce. While mixing slowly add in the 1/4 Cup of Milk, 1 Teaspoon at a time, until mixture is moist but not soggy and well combined overall.
Transfer mixture to 5in x 9in bread loaf pan, or form into a loaf shaped mound on a cookie sheet.
Bake uncovered for 40 minutes.
While the loaf bakes, mix the remaining separated 15 Ounces of Tomato Sauce and 3 Tablespoons of Ketchup in a small bowl.
When the initial 40 minutes is up, increase oven temp to 400 degrees and continue cooking until internal temp reaches 160 degrees, about 15 minutes. Remove from oven and then pour the Tomato Sauce and Ketchup mixture on top of the loaf, return to oven and bake an additional 10 minutes.
